Description:
Tate-Warika-umari (The Eagle Goddess) helps to bridge earth and sky, acting as an intermediary between the worlds. Often referred to as “Mother Eagle Girl,” the eagle is seen as both young and old or wise at the same time. The shaman calls upon the spirit of warika to help our spirits fly through the nierika (spiritual doorway). In ancient times, the footsteps of the dancing deer magically transformed into hicuri (peyote – sacred cactus) when the sun was born into the sky with the help of the eagle, who taught the sun how to fly. The eagle goddess blesses us with the breath of life, helping all living creatures to be born and sustain life.
Through vivid color and symbolic pathways, the painting becomes a nierika—a portal of vision—expressing the interconnectedness of all life and the enduring journey of prayer and ceremony.
