This one-of-a-kind yarn painting is crafted by the visionary Wixárika artist and mara-akame (shaman), Eligio Carrillo. Eligio’s yarn paintings hold profound spiritual significance, serving as Nierikas, or sacred doorways to the divine—each piece is a passage into the spiritual world as envisioned by the shaman.

Artist's Description: Symbol of the Ceremony of the Spirits: This is when the Mara'akame prepares to deliver the spirits of those who have died. He works to draw them in and present them in spirit before the ceremony. An offering is made for the one who has died, and he takes on the power to give to those spirits so they may sustain themselves — sometimes even appearing in person. He must seek this power to establish them in the sacred place, Caligoy.
