The Wixáritari have been refining their art forms for thousands of years.

The history of the Wixáritari is embedded within their art, reflecting the cosmology and symbols of their traditions. Artisans must first have a dream or vision of each symbol or design before creating it, with each piece of art serving as a direct extension of their visionary experience.

THE NIERIKA

With no written language, the Wixáritari transmit the wisdom of their history through the medium of their art. Each pattern, symbol, and depiction carries layers of deep significance and meaning.

The nierika (spirirtual doorway) is seen as a path to the divine, connecting each of us to the various dimensions of reality or conciousness. It is within the nierika that the Wixáritari search for clear reflections of life, so that they may find their true self.

Using backstrap looms and hand embroidery methods, artisans tie together detailed imagery and vibrant colors to create unique bags, belts, clothing, and altars.
