Handmade indigenous artwork from the Wixárika (Huichol Tribe)
This one-of-a-kind yarn painting is crafted by the visionary Wixárika artist and mara-akame (shaman), Eligio Carrillo. Eligio’s yarn paintings hold profound spiritual significance, serving as Nierikas, or sacred doorways to the divine—each piece is a passage into the spiritual world as envisioned by the shaman.
Artist's Description: The place where the shaman hunts for the hicuri (peyote) that grows in Wirikuta, a region near Real de Catorce. The eagle goddess appears to the shaman, helping their spirit fly into the nierika (sacred doorway), with Kauyumari (the Deer Spirit) guiding our way. The shaman discovers the secrets of the ancient ones, unraveling the mysteries of creation like the uncoiling of the snake. In the nierika, we see the reflections of the faces of people, which help us see ourselves more clearly.
